Department of Physical Education
The Department of Physical Education, Kalyani University, West Bengal has the unique distinction of being pioneer, with only two other Universities in India in starting a teaching course in Physical Education in a University Department in 1963. Subsequently it again became pioneer among the Universities of Eastern India to start master in Physical Education course followed by Doctoral programme in 1982. The Department has such objectives as to help acquire a depth of knowledge of the academic discipline of Physical Education to develop knowledge and management skill for efficient functioning as professional in education institutions, to foster and possible research in Exercise and health science, to provide lea dusty for the development of Physical Education.
Special feature of the Department
Other than undergraduate, post-graduate and research programme department is shouldering the responsible of sports division – looking after the sports & games in general of the students of department and also of the colleges affiliated to the University.
Achievements of the Department: So far 43 students awarded Ph.D in this department.
- Four teachers have participated in the international conferences abroad.
- Two teachers have the unique distinction of teaching of teaching in foreign University.
Teacher have published at lest six books & have many publication in international Journal.

- B.PEd. Course – N.C.T.E approved.
- There is Yoga centre attached to the department.
- Department organized educational tour, annual camp, picnic for the students.
Extension service organized by the department.
