Activities of NSS

There are about 50 NSS Units having around 5000 NSS volunteers under our University NSS activities. Most of the important activities for this year performed by the University and colleges under this University are mentioned below —
One male and one female volunteer from the Haringhata Mahavidyalaya participated in National Youth Convention held at Hyderabad on and from 21.2.05 to 25.02.05 as part of a programme of youth festival.
University of Kalyani organized two day programme on Peer Educators Training between 30.04.05 and 01.05.05 under UTA Phase II programme taking volunteers from six colleges under this University. On the same issue University of Kalyani organized another programme between 07.05.05 and 08.05.05 for the Training of Community leaders (youth) coming from the adaptive villages which fall under respective colleges.
On the issue of AIDS Walk for life- a central Govt. programme jointly with AIDS Prevention Society for the Eastern Chapter which started on 20.08.05 and ended on 17.09.05, about 400 volunteers from different colleges individually walked on different dates. The original programme however did not touch the Nadia district. It passed through Howrah and Burdwan Districts.
Under the NSS banner Jadavpur University arranged one day workshop on Disaster Management on 03.09.05 where 25 programme officers from different colleges including the Programme Coordinator himself participated in the workshop.
In 2006 also two male and two female volunteers from Haringhata College attended Pre-Republic day camp held at Puri, Orissa between 05.11.05 and 14.11.05. Out of this group one male volunteer and two female volunteers were selected for Republic day Parade camp, for which they had to undertake training between 01.01.2006 and 31.01.2006 at New Delhi. The volunteers completed the training camp successfully.
On the request of the NSS Regional Centre Kolkata a 7 day National Integration camp was held at Kalyani University from 11.12.05 to 17.12.05 where 5 male and 5 female student volunteers from each institution came to participate from different parts of the country including students of Kalyani University. Besides Kalyani University students representing West Bengal, students from other states like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Goa, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Sikkim, took part in the programme. Students from Haringhata College took a leading role in this programme from West Bengal. All the students enjoyed the programme very much with various activities in the day time and cultural functions during evenings.

Special Camping Programme :

As per the earlier themes directed by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, as part of the theme ‘‘Youth for Swachhata’’ and ‘‘Yoga’’, the following colleges held a 10-day Special Camping Programme during 2005-2006.
Haringhata Mahavidyalaya, Berhampore Girls’ College, Sripat Singh College, Kandi Raj College, Nagar College, Subhas Ch. Centenary College, Dukhulal Nibaran Ch. College and R.D.K. College, Murshidabad.

General Programme :

In different colleges, so far as reports are available, the units performed general functions like tree plantation, health check up, pulse polio proposal and also their routine activities.
