Right to Information Act, 2005

 

 

INTRODUCTION

 The Right to Information Act intends to set out the practical regime of Right to Information for citizens to enable them to access the information under the control of public authority in order to promote transparency and accountability in the working of such authority.

 Section 2(h) of the Act defines “public authority” as any authority or body or institution of self-governance established or constituted by or under the constitution or by law made by the Parliament or any state legislature or by notification issued by the appropriate government. It includes body owned, controlled or substantially financed by the government.

 In accordance with the provisions contained in section 2(j) of the Act, Right to Information means right to information accessible under this Act which is held by or under control of a public authority.

Bringing Information to the Citizens

Right to Information Act 2005 mandates timely response to citizen requests for government information. It is an initiative taken by Department of Personnel and Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions to provide a– RTI  Portal Gateway to the citizens for quick search of information on the details of first Appellate Authorities, SPIOs   etc. amongst others, besides access to RTI related information / disclosures published on the web by various Public Authorities under the government of India as well as the State Governments.

Dr. Prasenjit Deb, Dy. Registrar is the State Public Information Officer (SPIO) of the University.

The fee prescribed for filing an original application i.e. Rs. 10/- and other fee for obtaining the information may be deposited by way of cash against proper receipt or by demand draft or bankers cheque or Indian Postal Order payable to University of Kalyani at Kalyani-741235.
